Judging Flower Planters at the Dodge County Fair

Three of our Master Gardeners had the pleasure of judging flower planters at the Dodge County Fair the Tuesday evening before the fair officially opened. Storms were rolling in, so fortunately, the planters were moved indoors before the storms arrived, so both the plants and the judges stayed nice and dry!

A total of 26 flower planters were evaluated based on plant health, growing requirements (sun/shade and moisture needs), color harmony (monochromatic, contrasting, or complementary colors), contrasting textures, structure (the classic "thriller, filler, spiller" design), and overall appearance, including originality, creativity, proportion, and balance.

It's always fun to see the creativity of our local 4-H and FFA exhibitors. The unique planter designs and thoughtful plant selections showcase the hard work, imagination, and gardening skills of these talented young gardeners.
